VEU Program Updates for Water Heaters in 2023

VEU is moving ahead with changes to the water heating activities, including changes to activity 1D and new activities 3C/3D for gas replacements.

AS/NZS 4234:2021 Update

From the end of May 2023, EnergyAE will model your products using the AS/NZS 4234:2021 standard.

Products previously modelled to AS/NZS 4234:2008 will have transitional calculations applied to make them equivalent to AS/NZS4234:2021 results.

This means that all products that wish to be remained on the register must be re-modelled to AS/NZS 4234:2021 at a small load size.

New factors used in VEU equations, plus the reduction in modelled load size mean that it is expected 1D VEECs to drop by 3-4 certificates.

Products previously modelled are eligible until June 2024, but these will be using transitional equations until new 2021 modelling is submitted, so the sooner we can re-model these products the better.

New Gas Activities 3C & 3D

Soon VEECs will be available for the replacement of gas water heaters with heat pump water heaters under activity 3C, and electric-boosted solar water heaters under activity 3D.

Due to the relative emissions factors of gas and electricity, this activity will reward around 6-7 VEECs for heat pumps.

Get in touch with EnergyAE to arrange modelling of your gas & solar water heaters for VEU certificates.
